Zidane To Double Down On Rotations With Matches Every Three Days

Zinedine Zidane has always used rotations in each of his spells on the Real Madrid bench.

This policy peaked in 2016/17 when he led the club to success in the Champions League and LaLiga Santander, but it comes with its risks too.

Losses such as the elimination from this year’s Copa del Rey highlight the vulnerabilities of the rotation system, but not even such defeats turn Zidane off the idea of rotating.

“Every player is important for me and you always need everyone,” he has said.

Now, with football readying to return from the enforced break, those rotations are likely to be more important than ever.

Teams are likely to play games every three days and the increase of permitted substitutes to five will only add to how often things are changed.

Players like James Rodriguez and Gareth Bale will feature, while Brahim Diaz, Mariano Diaz and Eder Militao could even have minutes.

Zidane has a lot of options in attack, with as many as eight players ready to come and go from his XI as he sees fit.

Few teams boast Real Madrid’s offensive resources, even though they’re lacking a clinical No.9 in addition to Karim Benzema to finish every chance created.

There are options in midfield as well, where Casemiro is the only one who doesn’t have a replacement.
