Gareth Bale’s strained relationship with Real Madrid and the club’s fans hit a new low on Thursday night as the Welshman cut a petulant figure throughout their title celebrations.

The 31-year-old was once again an unused substitute for the 2-1 victory over Villarreal, a match that acted as a LaLiga procession following Barcelona’s earlier defeat by Osasuna.

The newly-crowned champions were presented with the trophy after the match at the Estadio Alfredi Di Stefano, but Bale appeared in no mood to embrace the moment.

A video posted on the club’s Twitter page showed the entire squad gathering around the trophy, with Bale hovering at the back, to the left-hand side of the silverware.

Pulling a bemused face, he appeared to mock his team-mates with half-hearted attempts to copy their flailing arms in celebration.

Bale’s disdain for the situation was also clear as the player’s sought to pay tribute to Zinedine Zidane’s role in their triumph.

The Frenchman, who had just guided Los Blancos to their first league trophy in three years,  was picked up by his players and thrown into the Madrid sky as part of the celebrations.

However, images showed the Welshman stood slightly away from the ruck of players, arms folded as he decided against joining in.

As the celebrations continued, Bale continued to play up. A chorus of ‘campeones’ was punctuated by the forward attempting to trip up his team-mates as they jumped around the pitch.

Bale could be seen swinging his legs out at some team-mates, attempting to take them down as they danced on the pitch.

It only serves to add to the notion that Bale’s current behaviour is that of a man on the way out.

Bale was accused of play-acting on the Real bench when making a binoculars gesture to cameras during his side’s victory over Granada.

That reaction came after he was lambasted by the press in Spain for pretending to fall asleep on the sidelines during their clash with Alaves just days earlier.

That prompted Zidane to defend his player – insisting he did not have a problem with the former Tottenham winger.

‘The question about Gareth again! We are interested in the game, just like Gareth is,’ Zidane told his pre-match press conference, ahead of the Villarreal clash.

‘You (the press) are always trying to put things between us but you will not succeed.’
