BECAUSE I WAS MADE BLACK By; SUE

ADVERTISE HERE

I see that disgust on your face

Just because we are not of thesame race

You say all life matters

Yet, every other day several blood splatters

You scream about how much peace you pursue

But when a black life is taken, where on earth are you?

Where is your sympathy and support,

When the exhorters of our lives goes Scottfree in court?

Why are you more upset at the words from an activist’s speech,

Than you are at the fact that another black body lies bleeding in the street?
Why don’t you demand justice when it’s our lives they are taking?

Why don’t you demand truth as the media is muckraking?

Disseminating misinformation and straight up lies,

Ensuring we are branded criminals in your eyes.

Why hate me because of the colour of my skin?

Why treat me like I committed some sort of sin?
A white person enjoys all the privileges including the right to life

But you bring death to our doorsteps even without an invite.

We go through this injustice simply because we are black

And an understanding or concern is what you seem to lack

We watch our husbands, sons, daughters and wives get ripped

Before our very eyes, our self-confidence and humanity is stripped

BANG!!!  And another unique one is no longer here

Yet no-one raises an eyebrow or drop a tear.
We want to be able to exercise our rights freely

And look up to a future that isn’t blurry

We want changes in accountability

Consequences for those who inflict this brutality

We no longer want to be silenced on matters concerning us

Nor do we want to be reserved at the back of the social justice bus

We no longer want to be treated like some disease

For it wasn’t by choice that we came to exist….
