Olivier Giroud has been heavily linked with departure from Chelsea in
recent months, having seen Tammy Abraham rise above him in the pecking
order under manager Frank Lampard. He reportedly came very close to
joining Inter Milan in January. However, after putting in a fine
performance in Chelsea’s 2-0 FA Cup triumph over Liverpool, the
33-year-old striker revealed that he is completely open to staying at
Stamford Bridge.
As quoted by The Athletic, the Frenchman replied positively with some
enthusiasm to the question of whether he would like to stay at the
club. The former Arsenal man believes he has a good two or three seasons
still ahead of him, and he wouldn’t mind spending them where he is.
Chelsea are believed to be admirers of RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner and
Olympique Lyon’s Moussa Dembele, but they face stiff competition on that
front from Liverpool and Manchester United, respectively. Neither of
those targets would come cheap, and having already spent a significant
sum on securing the services of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax, their budget has
become rather limited.
Meanwhile, Michy Batshuayi has been earmarked for sale, having failed to impress Lampard.
