During an interview on the Big Time Podcast published on Wednesday, the 36-year-old Messi shared that he doesn’t view his increasing age as a significant factor in deciding when to retire from his career. He also mentioned that he hasn’t contemplated the timing of his retirement, despite his illustrious playing history which includes winning the World Cup with Argentina, 10 La Liga titles and four Champions League titles with Barcelona, and receiving eight Ballon d’Or awards.
He said:
“The truth is I haven’t thought about it yet,” said Messi, who turns 37 in June. “Today, I try to enjoy it day-by-day, enjoy every moment without thinking about it more than that.
“I don’t have anything clear yet but to keep playing, which is what I’d like to do for a while longer. When the moment arrives, surely I’ll find the path to whatever fills me with joy and I enjoy and it’ll be a new role.”
Messi made his move to MLS side Inter Miami last year, clinching the Leagues Cup in August, marking the inaugural title in the club’s history. Presently, the team sits in second place in the Eastern Conference standings after competing in six games this season.
