The Blind Alley – Episode 1 0

The D-day had come for the Seminarians to be sent forth. The entire parish hall was filled to the brim. Every pius society and pius associations were dressed in their official uniform.

I didn’t envisage this sort of parting ceremony for these junior seminarians….. Obviously, they were flawless and selfless. Atleast, i’d vouch for Bro. Mathew that he did serve the church with all his might to the best of my knowledge.

“I’m sure that boy would still be a Virgin, ….”i thought for a while as i watched him deliver his vote of thanks.

“first, i’d wish to say a big thanks to everyone for all the support for this one year,” Bro.Mathew gave their valedictory speech.”

The Parish priest and his associates, the entire parishioners, We’re indeed indebted.

” I can’t stop without thanking my second family,”he referred to my family as his second family.”

Papa’s joy knew no bound as he stood up with heightened elation to shout……. GLORY.. GLORY GLORY TO JESUS!!!!! and everyone responded in unison…. HONOR.. HONOR… HONOR TO MARY…!!!

He received the highest gifts from the parishioners and Papa’s friends.. It was almost like his wedding..

Everyone loved Bro. Mathew but i knew i loved him more… Though he didn’t know.

Papa used his car to convey Semi’s gift to our house after the ceremony.

I spent the later part of the night with Semi. We were seated under the mango tree just behind our compound. He asked me to have a chat with him and i wondered what he could discus with me.

“Obioma, he called me as he held my hands. This would be the first time i’d stay with him so closely like this.

He wasn’t sounding nervous…. I was fidgeting. He looked me deeply into the eyes and my heart beat’s pulsation could be heard from 10 metres away.

Immediately, i remembered the dream i had. I felt nostalgic as the memories overwhelmed me with some scintillating thoughts.

“Obioma,” are you here with me?, “he asked as he noticed i was a bit distracted.

” Yes, “i’m… I sounded affirmative.

“I have been wanting to tell you all these while, ” he continued, that i’m……

” Obiomaaaaa….!!! Obiọmaaaaa.!!!!!!! “… It was Mama’s voice yelling my name.

Oh my God!….. Again?

First, it was in my dream and this was in reality and yet they couldn’t allow me hear what he wanted to say?

“Evidently, my enemies are already burning some serious red and blue candles for me in a distant coven….they certainly don’t want my happiness, “i thought in disgust as i excused myself to answer mama’s call.

“where is Semi?,” she asked. Call him, it’s time for night prayers. Call him so we would say our night prayers.

For once, i felt prayer was distractive…. I wished it would be skipped but Papa would rather skip food than skip prayers.

We ended up not having some private times to ourselves as Semi spent the entire remaining part of the night discussing with papa and mama in the siting room.

Again, i eavesdropped and heard Semi telling papa he would be leaving very early so he would get to Enugu in time.

I felt like walking into the siting room to drag semi out…. I felt like hearing what he had wanted to tell me. It was now i even realised i never had his phone number nor his email address.

Early in the morning, Semi had finished packing his luggages waiting for papa to return from the morning mass as to drop him off to the park which is almost 30 minutes drive away from home.

Mama and Chukwu Emeka couldn’t even allow me have some private time with Semi as she kept feeding him with some myriads of advice.

Papa returned as Emeka and Semi immediately transferred his luggages to papa’s car ready to leave.

“Good bye Obioma, “he hugged me so tight for some seconds…..

I could not believe this was happening…

I wept uncontrollably as hot tears gushed copiously down my cheeks… I felt like someone whose husband was leaving for a peace keeping war overseas…

Finally, my cute Semi is leaving us, so, he is leaving me….. Ooooooh no.! the tears kept rolling.

Mama also cried but hey..!! Our tears meant totally different things…

Before Papa finally drove off.. Semi dropped an envelope with me…

“Wow….. What could he had possibly written?…

Hang on for the next Episode…
