[STORY]:- The Blind Alley – Episode 9

“What’s Lovingitis?,” i quickly asked Onyinye.
” Lovingitis is a situation where one could be in love without even knowing she is, “onyinye tried defining whatever that coinage meant to me.

Obviously, she was joking but later found out how serious I was when i kept mute for a while…

“Hellooo….!!! Are you still with me?,” she asked this time without giggling.

“I’m here with you onyinye, ” i responded in a vapid tone.

I’m sorry if i took you unserious, she apologised but i’m also afraid you’re only being delusional.

The dream you had was as a result of some insipid and uncouth feelings you’re developing for the young man. Your subconscious mind only relayed the right impulse you constantly got your mind preoccupied with…… But!

“You need to show the guy some visible green lights”, she advised me.

How did you mean by “show him some visible green light,” Onyinye?

“Tell him how much you love him and make him see it ,” she echoed over the phone.

Now, i realised i had made the biggest mistake by choosing to talk to Onyinye at the first instance. How on earth would she expect me to approach a seminarian , priest bound, and spew such atrocious intention?

Nooo way!!!

If i’d make anything meaningful out of the whole thing she said, it would be “delusion”.

Yes, i’m being delusional and have totally allowed my emotions to override my sense of reasoning and must put an end to it…… So help me God.

On the 6th day of July, the worst happened. Our parish priest, Rev. Fr. Gabriel announced on the alter that the three seminarians would be leaving our parish next Sunday and return back to the seminary school to continue their studies. Now as senior seminarians…..

“Oh My God!, this isn’t true i tried convincing myself. All through the sermon to communion reception, i couldn’t get myself. It felt as if something in me was about to be annihilated.

” The laity Council should please plan for their sent forth on Sunday and  let’s try and be generous with them,”Fr. Gabriel pleaded as he dismissed us.

After the holy mass. The entire parishioners mobbed the seminarians to either snap some photographs with them or have some personal chats with them.

I sat under the big Cashew tree behind the sacristy to witness all that ensued. Bro. Mathew’s line was the longest as many parishioners were flocking around him. Ladies were more with few alter severs.

Again, i became jealous. I noticed this particular girl, Abigel who spent the longest time with him after all had dispersed.

“What could they be discussing?,” i wondered. They were laughing so freely, they really were engrossed, freely enjoying whatever they were discussing.

The straw that nearly broke the camel’s back was when i saw Abigal trying to look for a piece of paper.

What could she possibly be needing it for? Maybe to write down Semi’s phone number, “i quickly thought.

” Mba nu “…!!! ( no way).

I got up almost immediately and rushed to stop the act from happening .

Funny enough, i did all these unconsciously without knowing that my jealousy had ruptured.

“Hello Bro. Mathew”, i waded in.

“Papa is actually waiting for you at the car and has asked me to come fetch you, ” i obviously lied.

“Oh…,”I’m sorry i kept you people waiting,” he quickly apologised as he said bye to Abigal.

I felt relieved…..i wouldn’t be in a river and allow soap enter my eyes…. (i heaved a sigh of  relief)… If i can’t have him at least, it would be unfair for these urchins to have him, ” i assured myself…

“where is Papa,” he asked me as we got to the lobby without any sign of papa.

Oh, he must have left i stuttered…..

Obiomaaaa…..!!! He called me while stressing it. He seemed to have noticed my little drama.

“Were you jealous i was talking with that girl?,” he asked.

For some seconds… I couldn’t believe he asked me this question…. Does it mean Bro. Mathew had been noticing my feelings for him?

He did say jealous?…. Wow…..!!!

“Being jealous for what?,” i quickly denied.

He laughed so loud, tapped me lightly on the shoulder as we walked home together.

This would be the first time i’d be walking home with Semi….it felt so creatively beautiful.

“Chai”…!!! . It would possibly be the last…….
